X-Men 2099 character designs feature futuristic versions of Cyclops, Phoenix, Kid Cable and more

X-Men 2099 returns to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Marvel 2099 imprint and character designs for Spider-Man 2099: Exit Have a look at future versions of characters like Cyclops and Phoenix. August Spider-Man 2099: Exit #5 from writer Steve Orlando and artist Kim Jacinto highlights X-Men 2099, with other issues in the limited series focusing on the new 2099 iterations of Black Widow, Loki, and Winter Soldier. The new mutants join classic X-Men 2099 characters like Cerebra, Krystalin, and Bloodhawk, although their codenames and visual designs are a tribute to their ancestors.

Marvel shared Kim Jacinto’s design papers for X-Men 2099’s Cyclops, Phoenix, Northstar, Tulkas, and Kid Cable. Five of these names belong to modern-day heroes, while Tulkas seem to be a new innovation. Cyclops wears a blue costume and half-mask, although he appears to be shooting red rays from only one prosthetic eye; Phoenix fights a black woman who may have relations with Dora Milaje of Wakanda. Northstar is a big-bodied gentleman who looks more like a technological genius than a flying hero; Tulkas have a muscular upper body that burns and his tattoos are bright red; And Kid Cable looks very similar to the smaller time-traveling cable that came from the future to the present during the 2018 Annihilation series of events. The final character sheet features returning characters Cerebra and Krystalin.

“From comics to games, the X-MEN 2099 was nothing short of cool to me when I was dipping my toe into reading monthly comics, and I started right after I switched from reading all I could from flea market issue boxes, to owning Comic Finally Store and track books month after month,” Orlando explained when asked about his love for 2099.” The world was desolate and intriguing, the team was both familiar and different—a family of select mutants just struggling to survive. So the 30th anniversary celebration For 2099 is just a kick. To work with some of the first X-men I’ve ever met? Just a kick. And to add them to that family, with old and new faces? Like some cross-temporal electricity going back to which part of my brain holds my childhood. Wouldn’t it be 2099 without X -Men, and here? We have a team created to nod to the past but also dive into a future!”

“It’s a great honor to design these characters! My design choices are inspired by different artists like Greg Baldwin, Dave Guertin from CreaturBox, Sean Galloway and Segi Brosa to name a few. Looking at their designs helped me visualize and create these 2099 X-Men characters Jacinto added. “This is a dream come true for me! I would like to thank the editors Mark Panicia, Danny Khazem, and one of the best writers, Steve Orlando! It has been a pleasure working with them! I am so grateful!”

At the epicenter of the heavenly garden there is a mutant, somehow fallen from the stars. The nomadic X-Men fight to claim the park as their new home, but will Spider-Man honor their demands? Or will he try to take the garden to humans? And even if they could coexist, what would Spider-Man and X-Men do about the breathing Cabal Sentinels at their necks?
